"Bronson"
The summer of 2007 is one we will never forget. We lost our beloved 8 year old Giant Isaac to cancer, and a month later we lost our beautiful gal, Lily (Airedale) to old age and a broken heart. After Isaac died Lily spent every day looking for her Giant baby brother. There was a hole in our hearts that we were sure would never mend. We both agreed that someday we would have another dog, but not for a long long time. As the weeks went by, the silence in our home got louder and LOUDER. We then both agreed that a house is not a home without a dog. We thought the best solution for the time being would be to do some rescue work. Little did we know what was about to come our way.
I was told about the HT-Z organization and visited their web site. I first talked to Carolyn, then area rep. Barbara Crisafulli in N.Y. and then foster mom Cindy Gustafson of Boxbough, MA. Lucky for aka Ronnie, aka Bubba, forever Bronson, that their paths crossed. Bronson had been on the streets of N.J. and then a local shelter until HT-Z claimed him as one of their own. What a world it would be if this safety net was there to protect each and every dog.
Cindy came to visit us with her gal Ellie and Bronson, it felt like a little bit of heaven to have dogs on our property. Cindy had worked her magic on the boney frightened lost little guy. His hair was so matted he was shaved down to his skin; you could feel every bone in his body. And his ears had nothing on the Flying Nun. But when it was all said and done he had that special sparkle that began to fill that hole in our hearts. Cindy had given him a great foundation of obedience training, he was so so eager to please.
As fate will have it we got a call from Cindy to see if we might be interested in helping to foster Bronson as she needed a well deserved break, we were so excited. Needless to say the rest is history. It was a match made in heaven…a gift from our Lily and Isaac and HT-Z. He is a true joy, he loves people, adores other dogs, I call him Velcro because he never leaves your side…I think he is so afraid you will leave him. He gets along great with our horses, Cindy works at a horse farm on the weekends and she would take him with her so he is so calm around them.
And I saved the BEST for last, in one month we have only heard him bark twice…..yes you read that right ….twice. I swear our big boy Isaac is looking down on us and saying …Mom, you and Dad deserve a break… a well behaved, quiet, loving Giant. I now believe in Santa, The Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. But most of all I believe in the wonderful work of the countless volunteers who help find these magnificent Giants their forever homes.
Happy Trails, Janine & Joe
