"Flirt"

Carolyn Janak called me on March 28 to let me know there was an 8 month old GS up at the Cheyenne WY shelter and would I please go up and foster her till a forever home could be found. I picked her up the following day and brought her home. Her original name was Pepper but I quickly changed that to Flirt. It took me about all of two days to determine this little girl was going to stay with me.

Since I had been on Joanne Thompson's waiting list for a dog we had already
established a friendship so I ask Joanne to come down and give Flirt a good
grooming. That event turned into a real struggle for the three of us; the two
humans trying to subdue a red zone fighter afraid of any and all efforts to
touch her with a tool. Joanne and I finally prevailed and the result was a very
pretty pup. Flirt is still a red zone struggler when I try to get near her with
a garden hose for a wash. She had her second grooming yesterday and was much
more easily handled and was fighting only the toe nail clipper. We won that
struggle too.

Flirt and I do our exercise almost every day. To give her a "job" I bought the
blue doggy back pack. Her cargo is two 16 oz bottles of water. Alternatively, we
do the bicycle run around our neighborhood. Flirt is doing well on her obedience
but has some issues with distractibility and will ignore me if something else
has more entertainment value .. .. like a neighborhood dog. But, I'm sure we
will eventually work through that. She is happy and well nourished. When she
arrived she was a skinny little girl about 45 pounds. today she weighs 56. She
has her RIPS daily and likes to "kill" her sock & she passed her herding
instinct evaluation so doing that activity is in her future.
