"Max"

March 1, 2005 we said goodbye and helped our beloved Tartuffe to the Rainbow Bridge. We immediately talked about how much his sister Tempi would miss him and decided that a new companion was needed. We remembered how much Tartuffe suffered when his dear Juno passed.  Jane Elias heard of 2 young male giants in New York needing rescue and we began plans to foster. In the midst of this planning fate sent an urgent notice that there was a giant in Tennessee in desperate need of help.

The rescue team asked us if we could help.  There was a wonderful offer from Diane Phaturos to pay for air transport but alas no direct flights were available. We decided to try an alternate path. A quick call to the Robert Lord family of Huntsville Alabama asking them to pick up  "Max"  at the vet clinic in Tennessee and to meet us halfway was met with  "sure, it sounds like a wonderful adventure"  and we were off to Bristol Virginia to pick up Max aka  "Oliver Twist".

”This is my story.  I was tied to a post in a dark garage for I don't know how long. My family had left but would pop in every so often to give me some food but I never knew when they were coming or if they would come again. A very nice lady (Carolyn Knight ) that lived next door thought that was no way for a dog to live and she took me to a nice vet (Dr. Sara Tamas) who has dogs just like me. I was with her for some days and bathed and clipped and all checked out. Next they did a not very nice thing to my back end but it's ok now. Then more people came and put me in their car and we went and went and went until it was dark and then the lights came on and now I'm in a house with a sister dog who bites me on the nose when I get too stupid but she really is fun to have around. I've started to feel full again and don't worry about my food so much.  There is this really cool thing that one of my humans does that makes a click noise and then really really good food appears.  She also has this thing called an ATV that I can run next to and go FAST!  I never knew that life could be like this."


The following day was filled with introductions. Tempi immediately gave a thumbs up (accompanied by but all the toys are mine). Oliver has proven to be a friendly very outgoing Giant, meeting men, women, children, and dogs with a furiously wagging tail and kisses for all. Though he still needs work to learn all the rules he is making progress every day.

Oliver has a new forever home with us. He has endeared himself quickly with his goofy ways. Hopefully he will very soon recover his trust that his people will never abandon him. Thank-you to Carolyn Knight, Dr Sara Tamas, Carolyn Janak, Carolyn and Bobby Lord, Heather, Rita, and all the others, who made the rescue of this boy and others possible.
