"Cosmo"

Cosmo, a.k.a Porshe
Valli Rovenolt put a bug in my ear one night at agility class. Mary
Ann Bisceglia had some of the West Virginia dogs, did I have a
“friend” or “family” that would be interested (wink, wink). That was
a Wednesday evening.
Saturday morning, Tina and I were on our way to Pittsburgh to pick
up a “brother” for Blu, our two and a half year old female, Giant.
It felt right, right from the beginning. But, how would Blu take to
having competition in the house?
One look at Porshe, immediately renamed Cosmo, and I was hooked. He
was a happy boy. He was happy to be free of the home he knew the
first two years of his life. He had a problem riding in the car, was
only about half house broken, knew no commands, could not climb
stairs, and was now faced with a pushy sister.
This is the first rescue for Tina and I. We had talked about it,
just hadn’t pursued it at all. This just fell into place like it was
meant to be. The introduction between the dogs went well.

We became well know at the vet’s office again. Cosmo had some issues
to be taken care of. And due to a very strange gait, we had his hips
x-rayed. Hips are clear, but the vet feels he may have some
neurological and cognitive issues, but bottom line, he a happy boy
who wants to give as much love as he gets.
We cried out for some training help. I had tons of help from Valli.
I spoke with Terri Beardsley and Debbie Dayton. Everyone was so
helpful. This poor little guy went from no stimulation to over
stimulation and we didn’t know how to handle it. It took me ten
weeks to teach him to sit. Two weeks later, Tina had him climbing
the steps. He really had to just learn how to learn. He is making
slow progress, but he is making it. Bigger and better steps
everyday.
Tina’s dream was to see them become close and even want to sleep
together. That happened one Sunday afternoon while sitting on the
front porch. Cosmo rolled over, next to Blu and it looked like they
were spooning. As for me, I always wanted a “Velcro” dog of my own,
and heaven knows I have one now.
This is our first rescue venture. I know it was easy compared to
most. It has been a very positive, rewarding experience.
