My dog's name is Scout, a male, 4 yr old Giant Schnauzer. We live in Avon, Ohio, which is west of Cleveland.
I happened to be at Debbie Dayton's house, working on getting my 2 year old female Giant ready for a confirmation show, when Scout arrived. He was very thin, about 67 lbs. and had soooo much hair, you could only imagine what kind of Giant was hiding underneath all of the fluff! He was so calm, right away, even though he had just come all the way from R. Island. It didn't take long, until he was hanging out by me, enjoying getting his ears rubbed. Before too long, I asked Debbie, "Do you think Scout could be my Male?" (I had two females) From then on we did what needed to be done to bring Scout home.
Even though my husband wasn't thrilled with the idea of getting another Giant, he is so pleased and proud of Scout. Scout must have been a man's dog, since he seems to take to men quite well. Scout is the most well mannered Giant we have ever had, or met! He promptly responds to all of his basic obedience commands. He takes treats in the most gentle fashion that I have ever wittnessed. He even drinks water quietly! Scout enjoys running with Tyra, our 2 year old female in our fenced in about 1 acre back yard. His favorite activities are running after squirrels and running after, catching and retrieving tennis balls. He loves taking walks and he is learning to pull a cart and eventually he will give rides to little kids. As soon as we get the pool going in the early Spring, I plan to get him swimming (like my last two Giants did).
Last of all, Scout is the prettiest Giant that I have ever had the priviledge of owning. With his beautiful American coat, he is a sight to behold! Dr. Hutchison, from Animal Clinic NorthView, the renowned artificial breeding / frozen sperm bank specialist, was in awe when he saw Scout a few days back. Scout is now a good steady 80 lbs.. He has all of his shots updated and has a clean bill of health. I am attaching a few pictures of Scout enjoying his new back yard.
Thank you for all that your group did to see that he found his way to Debbie's "Heart of Ohio Rescue"!
